Moriah Congregation is a dynamic, warm, and engaged congregation located in Deerfield, Illinois. Our diverse membership is knowledgeable and committed to traditional Jewish practice, while fully embracing the challenges of the modern world, guided by the values of the Conservative movement and by our Zionism.

We seek an Education Director who will serve as the face of all youth programming and adult education at the synagogue, which includes serving as our Religious School Director. We seek an innovative, warm, creative, organized, self-motivated, energetic, flexible, enthusiastic and tech savvy Jewish educator, who will embrace the opportunity to work with our 300 households and continue to grow the impact of our educational offerings for Moriah members of all ages.

The Education Director will be responsible for managing the Religious School, which operates on Sunday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday afternoon/evenings. The Education Director will also coordinate (and sometimes lead) our Shabbat morning youth offerings, including Tot Shabbat and Mini Minyan, and will work to enhance and expand our current offerings for youth and teens.

The Education Director will be responsible for recruiting, motivating, supervising, and evaluating all youth department staff and the teen ozrim. He/she will communicate on an ongoing basis with students, parents, and teachers. The Director will work with the clergy to create meaningful High Holiday programming and services for school-aged children and younger families.

The Education Director will develop and implement a program for adult education and collaborate with the Rabbi, Executive Director, Preschool Director, and lay leaders in all aspects of educational programming. The position reports to our rabbi, Rabba Rachel Kohl Finegold.

The ideal candidate will have:
• A bachelor’s degree, master’s preferred in education, Jewish education, or related field
• Experience in creating, delivering, and overseeing engaging and meaningful Judaic curricula.
• At least 3 years of managerial or supervisory experience
• Experience in educational administration, including budgeting and human resource management.
• Experience with youth and synagogue programming
• Knowledge of Judaica and Hebrew with excellent davening skills and a passion for promoting Jewish Values, tradition, and culture
• Zionist values and experience with Israel programming
• The ability to work non-traditional hours (weekends, evenings and Shabbat and holiday services)
• Knowledge of contemporary best practices and experience with classroom teaching and management preferred.
• Possess basic knowledge and familiarity with developmental psychology, pedagogy, classroom management/engagement.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication skill
• Experience with youth programming

• Ability to communicate in a clear, understandable speaking voice, capable of communicating vital information to internal / external contacts. Accurate and clear vision and hearing.
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
• Ability to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance, kneel, talk and hear.
